I just ordered these from Moxsie!

Even though I am obsessed with shoes, I am totally odd about the whole "sandal/flip flop".
As a rule I avoid them. There is something about exposed feet and toes that seem to be completely avoidable by choosing a pair of flats (which seem more dignified not to mention cleaner).

With that being said, I thought it was high time I overcame my fear and found a sandal that would allow me to embrace casual comfort for the humid days of summer that are on their way. In some cases, glitter flats and platform boots just to not seem to cut it for pool side picnics.

Here are the pair I picked.

I love them! They have most of my favorite elements. Leopard, teal, metallic, straps.
Of course I found them at Moxsie. They are selling insanely fast (the red ones are already gone) so go, go, go!! Retail is $120.00 and their customer service is above and beyond any I have experienced.

In honor of this purchase, I was browsing Edge of Urge and found some new purchases I think are in my future.

Did I make a good choice? I hope sandals are worth the pedicures they require!
You will still never get me in regular flip flops!

Love Fade

Tuesday I had a transformative experience.
I went to see one of my favorite bands at my favorite venue which would have been fantastic in itself but the opening act completely stole my heart. Visually and mentally I was just overcome.
Music fuels my soul and touches every aspect of my life. Lately I was just not feeling any real connections with new artists. Sure some of my can't live without artists were finally releasing new material but I missed the feeling of new discovery.

Tuesday that changed when I saw TAMARYN.
Amazing.

The music is exactly what has been missing in my life. Lush soundscapes that reveal more depth upon each listen, her voice is urgent yet calming. I felt like a weight had lifted off my shoulders.
The projections used throughout the set are incredible. I highly suggest buying a copy of her album "The Waves" and if you are lucky enough to live in the Bay Area she is a local girl so show some love and go catch a show if you can!

The headliners of this show were THE RAVEONETTES. They are always amazing so no surprises here. Sune and Sharin are equally inspiring to me on an almost daily basis and each chance to see them is always special.

I hope that Bonny, who adores The Ravonettes as much as I, happens to see these pictures! I thought of her while I was taking them hoping there was going to be a date close to her!

Sharin Foo

Sharin Foo is a goddess (no, not Charlie Sheen's type of "goddess").
So in honor of The Raveonettes upcoming release of "Raven in the Grave" here is just a few reminders of why The Foo inspires me every single day.

And by this, of course, you all should be extra inspired to go pick up The Raveonettes new album "Raven In The Grave" when in comes out soon and check them out as they are on tour now!
I wouldn't miss it for anything. They put on a hell of a show.

Old but still great.

It is no secret that I adore Kate and this short film is fantastic.
I highly recommend checking out Antony and the Johnsons version of Beyonce's "Crazy in Love". It turns into an entirely different song with Antony Hegarty.

Black Out The Windows

I have been a terrible blog neglecter but hopefully a little new music will make up for it.
My favorite musical artist of recent times, since I first heard him as the lead singer of The Afghan Whigs around 1990, is Greg Dulli.
He is rather a local boy having grown up just 90 miles up river in Cincinnati.
His music, from The Afghan Whigs to The Twilight Singers to his solo work to The Gutter Twins, has always shown up at the exact points in my life when I need it.
In the interview below, you can download his cover of "Don't Call" a song by Desire.
I highly suggest doing so. His covers are magic.

Couture Spring 2011

As always I love Givenchy.

The backs of these dresses are just blowing my mind. I want to live in them.

I am REALLY glad John Paul Gaultier has returned to the land of couture. His collection was brilliant.

Mens fashion is rough

Morrissey
While looking over all the images of the latest offerings from the world of mens fashion it occurred to me that while I personally as a female like some of these pieces for myself, I am having a hard time imaging any male I know that would jump at the chance to wear drop crotch pants.
I was really on a mission to find wearable pieces and trends guys could pull from the Fall 11 shows. It might be helpful for you to know that as far as mens style goes I think that Morrissey and Joy Division are at the top of the pyramid.
Joy Division

The show I loved the most was Gucci. This year the house turns 90 and I love the way the kicked off the year with 70's luxe that is so wearable. The entire collection is worth posting and you can check it out at www.style.com

Another show I really liked was Yigal Azrouel, a New York based designer who decided to show in Paris. He has a lot of great pieces for layering (including chunky cable knit sweaters which are supposed to be big again this year for both men and women). He said one of his main reference points for this collection was Basquiat.

I know everyone was excited for the Mugler show and some of the pieces (most actually) were very wearable.

And you weren't getting away without a McQueen. The sash vests and military coats were very good but the black velvet jacket mixed with the yellow tie and sightly oversized trousers was the winner for me!

What are you thoughts on the shows?

Birthday Wishes

Our birthdays are approaching! This means I can think of one present I wanted for what seems like forever yet I have never bought for myself (I must be ill). It is a simple necklace with lyrics from one of my favorite songs placed upon one of my favorite animals. What could be holding me back? This particular necklace is in support of animal rights and vegetarianism which makes it an even more natural fit for me so this year I will see if it falls into my hands.

Strength to be Gentle and Kind goat pendant, Etsy $25

See! In love! The Smiths combined with a goat brings me pure joy. I always have said if given the chance to do anything I would raise goats.

King Knight=Holiday music. Yes?

Today started off with an 8:00 am dental appointment (I am scared unreasonably of all dentists and their drills) so I have been a little on edge all day.
My MacBook Pro received its holiday present today that I ordered from Moxsie and of course it could not wait to try it on! It FINALLY has a laptop sleeve. YAY! It is so furry inside and such an awesome deep purple. I must say she looks very pretty in her coat. Not that she has ever been out of the house but now she is ready!
In anticipation for what I hope to get for Christmas (and if I don't I will buy it myself) I bought a hot pink case for an iPhone 4. Is that bad to buy accessories for things you haven't got yet?

Moxsie has the best customer service. I receive everything I order from them SO fast and they wrapped everything which was a huge help and a great surprise!
They also have tons of amazing independent labels for unique finds no matter who you are shopping for.

The other store I have been looking at today is I Don't Like Monday's. This is mainly because the carry one of my favorite brands, Stolen Girlfriends Club. Check out this dress!

And while we are on dresses:

This one is by Maurie Eve. LOVE the buckles.

And look at these pants!

By Cheap Monday. Like bondage pants but more wearable.

And by Obesity and Speed (obviously) the shorts that match the tote bag I want. They are sold old but a quick trip to the closet to find a pair of jeans that can be cut into shorts will allow the studding to commence.

Sleigh Bells and Snowflakes

I will admit it. I am really not a holiday person. Don't get me wrong, I like the eggnog and holiday flavored lattes Starbucks offers this time of the year but I rarely get this big rush of holiday fever. I would MUCH love if the meaning of this season was not gifts or big dinners or parties but rather just some much needed quality time with family I do not get to see nearly enough of.

I am listening to Sleigh Bells but not the ones on the reindeer and both of us at here at The Bas Couture have snow to keep us occupied so the next thing to do is look for pretty things on the internet.

I don't really know why I love this dress but I do. ALOT. It has snowflakes on the sleeves!
And the shoes are freaking pink.

So do you expect a big holiday gift party or are you happy with the simpler things in life?
